As a child, Bill Gates would tuck himself away in the United Way of King County offices, lost in his books while our receptionist kept a watchful eye. His parents were never far, dedicating their time to service—his mother, Mary Gates, as a dedicated volunteer and our first female board president, and his father as board president.

That spirit of giving never left him. Last week, Bill Gates released his memoir, “Source Code”, with all proceeds benefiting United Way Worldwide. We’re grateful for his lifelong dedication to building stronger communities, here at home and around the world!
