Connecting with Our Neighbors Struggling with Homelessness

By United Way of King County, on April 27, 2020 | In Events, Fighting Homelessness, News

We often hear from people struggling with homelessness how much they value the small things many of us take for granted: “One of the toughest things about being homeless is keeping your feet healthy.”  and “I can go days without someone making eye contact.”

Each year, hundreds of volunteers and service providers come together under one roof to bring all sorts of services to people struggling with homelessness. From haircuts to dental vans and job resources to foot washing, the Community Resource Exchange is an event where people leave feeling cared for and connected to their community.

In this time of social distancing, this year’s event was cancelled, but clearly the need is greater than ever in King County.  We are so grateful to our corporate partners who made the swift decision to redirect their event dollars to support our other work fighting homelessness.

Because of these generous sponsors, more people have the supplies they need to stay safe in emergency shelter and support getting rehoused in this unprecedented time.

“Our employees appreciate the opportunity to volunteer and to see first-hand how together we can connect people experiencing homelessness with employers who can put them to work.”
