Hourglass: A United Way Podcast
Our community has always been the heart and our priority at United Way of King County. In all the years we’ve seen people from varied backgrounds and cultures come together to build our community, there’s one thread that we know weaves us all together: It’s time.
Now, we’re thrilled to bring you in on that journey with us through our weekly podcast, “Hourglass.” Your host Joe Burris will walk you through United Way’s work and how we choose to spend our expertise, resources, and your generous gifts to make an impact in the communities we serve.
From preventive efforts in housing and education to community nutrition and financial security for our neighbors—tune in to dive deep into issues you care about and be inspired by the stories and spirit of people who’re showing up to do something about it.
Hourglass host Joe Burris is the associate director of public relations at United Way of King County. Joe serves as United Way’s primary blog post writer, engages in community outreach, and is a liaison between the organization and the news media.
Prior to United Way, Joe served as a program officer for the Marguerite Casey Foundation in Seattle. Joe’s move to Seattle in 2015 followed a 30-year career in journalism (Nashville Tennessean, Boston Globe, and Baltimore Sun), where he profiled newsmakers such as U.S. President Jimmy Carter, actor/activist Harry Belafonte, actor Sylvester Stallone, tennis great Martina Navratilova, baseball Hall of Famer Hank Aaron, and two Munchkins from the motion picture “The Wizard of Oz.”
