FamilyWorks HungerCorps Member

START/END DATE: 9/3/2024 - 8/31/2025

FamilyWorks:

FamilyWorks partners with families to alleviate food insecurity and ensure they have resources and support to overcome systemic barriers to equity, build stable communities, and thrive. We operate two brick-and-mortar food banks as well as 10+ mobile sites and home grocery delivery service. Through our Family Resource Center, we offer family programming like playgroups, parenting classes and essential resources like diapers and kids’ clothing.

United Way of King County:

United Way of King County’s vision is to build a community where people have homes, students graduate, and families are financially stable. As part of our work to end poverty, we are committed to ensuring that children, particularly children of color, have access to healthy food in the places where they live, learn, and play.

Everyone deserves access to nutritious and culturally relevant food, but during the COVID-19 pandemic, local experts estimate that hunger in our community tripled. Low-income families and families of color were disproportionately impacted by the pandemic and are experiencing hunger at unprecedented rates. United Way is working to support an equitable recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic in our community, by developing and scaling high-impact strategies to reduce food insecurity.

You will join a dynamic cohort of direct service AmeriCorps members working in partnership with United Way staff, AmeriCorps, school districts, and community-based organizations to connect families with the food they need.

Commitment to Equity in Hiring: Hunger and poverty disproportionately hurt the most marginalized people in society — including people of color, people from working class backgrounds, women, and people who identify as LGBTQ+. We believe that these communities must be centered in the work we do. We strongly encourage applications from people with these identities or who are members of other marginalized communities.
