Youth Connection

Youth Connection The United Way of King County Youth Connection promotes youth as vital and valuable contributors to society by developing and supporting activities that strengthen youth relationships within the community.
10 Ways to Show Youth You Care

Tutoring and Mentoring Effort
Through the United Way of King County Volunteer Center, the Youth Connection supports and strengthens the existing processes that provide both tutoring and mentoring services to young people in our community. Based on collaborations and partnerships with existing programs:

  • Information on best practices regarding youth tutoring and mentoring programs is collected.
  • Volunteers are linked to existing tutoring and mentoring programs

Youth Service Effort
The voice of young people is increasingly being heard and validated in our communities, and this is shown through their participation in a wide variety of volunteer opportunities. The 1999 Seattle Youth Report (produced by the Seattle Youth Involvement Network) states that 90% of middle and high school students have volunteered either at school, a community organization, at a place of worship, or another place.

Our goals of addressing youth in service are:

  • Promote youth volunteerism and inspire volunteer service at an early age.
  • Provide opportunities for agencies to learn how to work with youth.
  • Establish resources to support youth workers and educators.

There are many ways for young people to get connected to volunteer opportunities, and lots of community-based organizations looking for great young people. The United Way of King County's Volunteer Center offers a database of over 700 opportunities with community agencies throughout King County working with a variety of social services, arts and culture, and environmental issues.
